These vibrant jewel toned earrings are made from sari silk yarn containing metallic thread. They have been bound with copper wire and multicoloured glass seed beads to make a 'cocoon' from which stray fibres escape giving a fuzzy appearance. From this cocoon, copper chains and handmade Indian glass beads are suspended giving great movement and interest. Sari silk yarn comes from silk remnants left over from the manufacture of saris. These earrings are named after the Indian city of Varanasi, situated on the banks of the Ganga in Uttar Pradesh. The major manufacturing industry in Varanasi is silk weaving and it is here that some of the finest saris in India are made.
